Complementing the decline in real estate sales in Turkey since the beginning of this year for a variety of reasons, house sales last May witnessed a decrease compared to last year, here is a set of statistics on sales this month...

In total, 113 thousand 276 homes were sold in Türkiye in May
Home sales across Turkey decreased by 7.7% in May compared to the same month in the previous year, to 113 thousand 276.
Istanbul had the highest share of home sales - as usual - with 18,435 sales, or 16.3%, followed by Ankara, with 11,196 homes sold and a share of 9.9%, then Antalya, with 6,158 homes sold, a share of 5.4 percent.
The provinces with the lowest number of home sales are Ardahan with 18 houses, Hakkari with 38 houses, and Bayburt and Tunceli with 55 houses respectively from the bottom.

Home sales fell 16.3% in the January-May period
In general, housing sales decreased by 16.3% since the beginning of the current year, from January to May, compared to the same period in the previous year, and amounted to 482,143 thousand.

Real estate housing sales amounted to 27,476
Mortgaged home sales across Turkey also decreased by 6.3% in May compared to the same month in the previous year and became 27 thousand 476. The share of mortgaged sales in total home sales was 24.3%.
On the other hand, sales of mortgaged homes decreased in the period from January to May by 16.7% compared to the same period in the previous year, to become 108 thousand and 67.

85 thousand 800 sold homes of other types
Other unmortgaged home sales in Turkey decreased by 8.2% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and became 85 thousand 800. The share of these sales amounted to 75.7% of the total home sales.
On the other hand, the sales of these homes in the period from January to May decreased by 16.2% compared to the same period in the previous year and became 374 thousand and 76.

The number of new home sales reached 34 thousand 413.
The number of initial or new home sales in Turkey increased by 4.7% in May compared to the same month in the previous year, to 34 thousand 413.
145,272 homes were sold, accounting for 30.4% of total home sales in the January-May period, down 11.3% from the same period in the previous year.

Used home sales amounted to 78,863 homes
As for used homes, their sales across Turkey decreased by 12.3% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and became 78 thousand and 863. The share of used home sales in total home sales was 69.6%.
Second-hand home sales also decreased by 18.3% in the January-May period compared to the same period in the previous year and amounted to 336,871.

3 thousand 167 homes were sold to foreigners in May
Based on the general decline in sales, housing sales to foreigners decreased by 46.9% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 3 thousand 167. Homes accounted for 2.8% of total sales.
Antalya came first in home sales to foreigners, with 1,245 homes sold. It is followed by Istanbul with 934 homes sold and Mersin with 249 homes sold respectively.
From January to May, housing sales to foreigners decreased by 37.8

% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 16,650.

Russia is the first in terms of sales to foreigners
In May, citizens of the Russian Federation bought 991 homes from Turkey. Iran followed the citizens of the Russian Federation with 503 homes, Ukraine with 175 homes, and Germany with 129 homes, respectively.
